Electrical Safety Fundamentals for Water & Wastewater Operators
TRE: Pending

Operators will be introduced to the basic electrical safety principles needed to safely work around electrical equipment commonly found in water and wastewater facilities. The course includes a review of basic electrical terminology, electrical components, and common hazards associated with motors, breakers, disconnects, transformers, MCCs, and control panels.

Lockout/Tagout requirements, hazardous energy isolation, and verification of a zero-energy condition will be covered, with emphasis on operator responsibilities and recognizing when qualified electrical personnel are required. The course will also address Arc Flash hazards, warning labels, approach boundaries, PPE awareness, and safe work practices around energized electrical equipment.

Facility-based scenarios and common electrical safety situations will be used to reinforce hazard recognition, proper response, and safe decision-making.
